Tragic Farm Accident

According to Grant County Sheriff's, their office received a 911 call around 2:00 in the afternoon on July 15th reporting that 13-year-old Mitchell Kleindl was trapped under the corn in a grain bin that was being unloaded on a farmsite.

The accident occurred southwest of Herman in Grant County.

The Herman First Responders, Herman Fire Department, Donnelly First Responders, Stevens County Ambulance and the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

According to Grant County Sheriff, Dwight Walvatne, Mitchell and his grandfather where the only ones on the farmsite at the time of the accident.

"He was one of my D.A.R.E students... he was a good kid," says Walvatne. "It's tragic to lose a life at thirteen. He was full of energy and a good kid, he liked to play baseball."

Mitchell was found unconscious and unresponsive underneath the corn in the grain bin. CPR was started and Mitchell was transported to the hospital in Morris where he was later pronounced deceased.

"We've have several farming accidents, they don't happen very often but when they happen it's pretty serious." says Walvatne. "He will be truly missed."
