5 Sentenced for Robbing Hotel, Injuring Clerk

Two Grand Rapids teens plead guilty in hotel robbery

A judge sentenced two Minnesota men to prison and three others to jail time and probation for robbing $200 from a La Prairie inn and injuring a clerk.

Michael James Malcolm, of Marble, and Scott Warren Malcolm, Jason Layne Stram, Jr., Daniel Patrick Gordon and John Richard Feiock of Grand Rapids were all sentenced on one count of first degree aiding and abetting aggravated robbery.

According to court records, the men said Scott Malcolm came up with the idea to rob the Lakes Inn on May 27. They also said he hit the night clerk with an air pistol.

Scott Malcolm, 30, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. Michael Malcolm, 18, was sentenced to a little more than six years in prison.

A judge stayed the prison sentences of Stram, 17, and Gordon, now 18, and Feiock, 19. All three will serve jail time, pay fines and serve probation. If they violate probation, they could go to prison.

After the robbery, police followed footprints in the snow to find Feiock and the Malcolms. Feiock identified Gordon and Stram as lookouts.

Gordon and Stram, who were both 17 at the time of the crime, were certified to stand trial as adults. Both pleaded guilty.
