Big Lake Woman Pleads Guilty in OD Death

ELK RIVER, Minn. (AP) - A Big Lake woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the death of a woman who died from a methadone overdose.

As part of the plea agreement, 42-year-old Rebecca Ann Seffinga agreed to serve 57 months, or nearly five years, in prison and pay restitution to the victim's family.

Seffinga entered the plea Monday in Sherburne County District Court. The sheriff's office announced it on Tuesday.

Seffinga told the court she provided her prescription pills to 22-year-old Anna Burns, of Big Lake, who was found dead of a methadone overdose in an apartment in September last year.

Deputies learned that Seffinga had two prescriptions for methadone, a drug commonly used to treat heroin and morphine addictions.

Seffinga will be formally sentenced Sept. 24.
