Numbers Up at Rice Hospital

Budgeting has helped turn around a hospital whose financial situation was less than hopeful a year ago.

Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar saw a profit of $193,353 since June 30 after eliminating two outpatient programs, cutting staff and scaling back on employee hours last August.

According to West Central Tribune, the hospital experienced a busy June and July with patient admissions up during the month of July. Chief Financial Officer for Rice Hospital Bill Fenske told the Tribune, “We're surprisingly finding a busy summer. That doesn't happen often."

Rice’s profit has doubled from the end of 2008 to June 30 with numbers jumping from $3.1 million to $6.9 million.

The hospital will continue to reinvest the money and budget.
