Luverne Father Convicted

LUVERNE, Minn. (AP) - A 77-year-old Luverne man convicted of fathering two children with his adopted daughter has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Leo Swenson was also sentenced Thursday to 15 years probation, and he must register as a sex offender.

The victim says the sexual relationship started when she was 13. Swenson told investigators he couldn't recall specific details about sexual contact between the two, but he didn't deny he could be the father of the children.

In a thin, scratchy voice, Swenson apologized Thursday and said he was wrong.

Prosecutors say the girl moved into her adopted parents' bedroom when she was 16. She remained there for the next 15 years while Swenson's wife slept on the couch.

The relationship ended when the daughter moved in with a boyfriend.
