Ed Smith

Broadcast television is constantly changing and since we opened the doors at KSAX-TV in 1987 we’ve had to change with it. I came to Alexandria for one year (22 years ago) as a News Photographer. Years later I went back to school and pursued a career in Broadcast Engineering. From fixing tape decks to midnight calls to get the transmitters back on the air, I had a chance to try it all.

In 2000 I was promoted from Chief Engineer to Station Manager and given the role of overseeing the operation of KSAX as a whole.

My most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with people. From answering question about DTV and what type of antenna to use to meeting with advertisers, it’s something new everyday. Even though I still get to keep my hand in engineering and news, it’s going to the community events and talking to viewers that let me know how we’re doing as a TV station.

If you have a comment about the station, something good or not so good, please email me. I enjoy hearing from our viewers.
