"We're asking everybody to take no increase in wages... benefits... for the next year and then turn around and authorize for six million dollars... I just can't do it," said County Commissioner Norm Salto. The six million dollars would be the county's portion for a new facility but the total number would be close to twelve million dollars. No matter how the decision comes out there will be money spent either way and local residents don't want to see taxes rise because of this new project. "You're talking about raising my taxes over one-thousand dollars again in 2010," a local resident stated today at the meeting. "We're on Social Security. Just how long do you think we can last living in our house?" The county board decided today to renegotiate with the city to find a better timeline that would work with the county's budget. The next county board meeting will be in two weeks. Written for the web by Emily Deem.
