Matt Standal
Reporter, writer, and scuba diving instructor Matt Standal has a passion for the outdoors.
Matt grew up in Alexandria and is excited to report on the people and places around his hometown. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, he has actively pursued scuba diving and writing in Minnesota, South Florida and the Hawaiian Islands.
Hopping from one island to the next, Matt has worked as a newspaper staff writer and scuba instructor in the Florida Keys, as a dive guide in Hawaii, and most recently as a computer technician at a Hawaiian Shirt Company.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys skiing, skateboarding, creative writing, and outdoor sports.
His favorite memory is surfing in Key West during Hurricane Gustav in 2008.
His favorite author is Ernest Hemingway.
