The Minnesota Ballpark Authority met Thursday to make plans for testing out the new stadium before it's filled with fans. Park officials want to check everything they can before winter arrives. So, over the next month, Target Field will undergo a thorough examination. Workers will flush the hundreds of toilets at the same time to check for pressure and leaks. They will test all of the concession stands and turn on every light, including the lights on the field. Dan Kenney, Executive Director with the Minnesota Ballpark Authority, has talked with other major league teams who have recently opened new parks. Kenney said, "What we heard over and over again is that training is critically important, making sure all systems are tested well in advance and that you have some dry runs before the big opening." The Twins have announced they'll play two preseason games against the St. Louis Cardinals before the home opener to work out any kinks. Ballpark officials are also in discussions with the University of Minnesota to have the Gopher baseball team play at Target Field in late March. |
