Fallen Walker Soldier Remembered by High School Principal, Football Coach

REMER, Minn. - One of the two Minnesota soldiers killed in the line of duty this week is being remembered as a man with a dream to serve his country.

24-year-old National Guard Specialist George Cauley of Walker's former high school principal Joseph Akre of Remer describes him as a very patriotic and very pleasant young man to be around.

“If you could fill the building with Georges, you’d have no trouble,” Akre said.

He also said George’s presence was always very much appreciated and that he always wanted to join the military.

“The thing about George that really came back to my mind was his smile. George was always smiling. He wore a set of wire-rimmed glasses and was just a happy young man,” he said.  “His enthusiasm really bled off into our other students. He was an inspiration to a lot of us.”

Specialist Cauley grew up and graduated from Northland Highschool in Remer in 2003 before his parents moved to Walker, Minn.
