At around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Daniel Pung called the Stearns County Sheriff's Office and reported that his son 39-year-old Steven Pung was trapped inside the farm's corn bin. According to Pung, his son had climbed into the bin and then the auger started running. Pung was pulled down into the shelled corn and quickly became buried underneath the corn. When Stearns County Deputies and Elrosa Rescue Squad arrived on scene, they quickly opened the lower hatch on the bin, and began shoveling out the corn. Rescuers also climbed in the bin and began shoveling the corn to free Pung. Eventually, they were able to free Pung from the corn. Deputies saw that Pung was breathing and alert. He was then transported to Paynesville Hospital. Written for the web by Cristi Jessee. |
