Before the game, both head coaches gave insight on the opposition. "They're solid all the way around, they got fast receivers they can throw the long and the short ball, they're just bringing everything to the table tonight," said Fergus Falls head coach Richard Risbrudt. "They've been in a lot of football games. They've been close in a lot of games they could have easily won four or five games and they've got good football players. I know they have nothing to lose they're gonna let it all hang out tonight," said Alexandria head coach Mike Empting. And it seemed from the opening kickoff Alexandria proved why they came into the contest 6-1 and in Central Lakes Conference title contention. On the opening drive Alexandria QB Colin Erickson went to the air to find Mark Whiting wide open for the first touchdown of the game to make it 6-0 after a blocked extra point. It wouldn't take long for the Cardinals to strike again as Junior Running Back Parker Giroux got the ball up the middle for a short gain and the second touchdown of the game. After a successful two-point conversion the Cardinals led 14-0. Late in the first half Alexandria found the endzone again as Michael Joerger cut through a hole in the line and scored to make it a three touchdown game going into the half. Fergus Falls was effective offensively but got handcuffed by key offensive turnovers. Most notably Felix Coleman of the Cardinals got two picks in the first half to completely extinguish any offense the Otters were mounting. The second half was just more of the same as Alexandria won the final game of the regular season 40-13. Written for the web by: Tony Seeman |
