The Cardinals Send the Eagles Packing in Game One of the 8AAAA Playoffs

Saint Cloud Apollo just couldn't seem to get anything going as Alexandria went with what has been working all year, as they battled on October 27.

Before the game we caught up with both coaches who reflected on the regular season as well as the playoffs up ahead.

"We've got a good football team and were not worried about the score tonight were worried about our team putting together four quarters of good football, we haven't played four quarters yet. We have always had mental mistakes, so tonight were looking to play a mistake free four quarters of football" said Saint Cloud Apollo head coach Jon Benson.

"Well at this point of the season now that the regular season is over the 7-1 doesn't mean anything. Everybody starts with a clean slate it's a new lease for Apollo who hasn't won a game yet this season. They know that in the other locker room and we let our kids know that they got nothing to lose" said Alexandria head coach Mike Empting before the opening kickoff.

As soon as that kicked sailed offensive control was the name of the game and Alexandria had it in spades. After a scoreless opening drive for Apollo Alexandria struck back on their first play with a run up the middle from senior captain Matt Peterson who would take it more then half the field for the opening touchdown to give the Cardinals a 6-0 lead and they never really looked back.

On the other side of the ball the Apollo offense couldn't seem to consistently put together four straight offensive gains to move the chains, which would result in punting or failed 4th down conversions.

Going into the half Alexandria had a 25-0 lead and ended up taking the game 37-8. Alexandria takes the field halloween night for the semifinals to take on Detroit Lakes in Alexandria.
