Friends and Family to Honor Alexandria Flight Instructor Killed in Afghanistan

BergquistALEXANDRIA, Minn. -Minnesota native Randy Bergquist, a former flight instructor with the Alexandria Airport who was killed in Afghanistan last month, will be remembered at a memorial service in Henning, Minn. Saturday.

In October Nato forces found the bodies of three military contractors in Afghanistan missing for two weeks after their plane disappeared, including the body of Minnesota native Randy Bergquist.

The memorial service will be held Sat., Nov. 7th in Henning, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 3 p.m.

Described as an avid sportsman, one who loved to fish and loved to fly, former co-worker and long-time friend Jerry Sather said Randy was a great guy in every way, a great pilot, and a great American.

"He liked to serve his country. He felt he was really doing a good service when he was in the Marine Corps and helping the country. He was a good all-around American person," Sather said. "He was honest and an all-around kid."

A total of eight soldiers died in separate roadside bombings in Afghanistan Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 55 for the month. That makes October the deadliest month for Americans so far in Afghanistan.
