Womens National Team.ALEXANDRIA, MN- It's not very often that you get to see men competing against women in athletics. But that was exactly the case on October 28 as the men's NAHL team the Alexandria Blizzard hosted the women's U.S.A. team. I think the real question is...how does a game like this come about? I asked U.S.A head coach Mark Johnson just that and he said it would be great training for his girls before the olympics in February of next year. He also said it's tough to find women competition that is up to the calibre of his team to play against. This game was an exhibition for both teams and played out like one. From the opening draw the Blizzard seemed to control the pace of the game. They were able to score early and often putting away six total goals before the final buzzer rang. That is not to say the U.S.A. team played poorly. They showed great signs of promise getting shots on net and putting pressure on a male team. The Blizzard end up winning 6-0. But again this was an exhibition for the women's U.S.A team. Next stop for them is a trip to Finland to defend their own title then of course the big tournament next February, the 2010 Olympics.
