Utility Companies Pull the Plug on Big Stone II Project
Milbank, SD - The anticipated $1.6 Billion coal-fired plant that was supposed to be built in Milbank, South Dakota is now a thing of the past.
The announcement came Nov. 2nd, when participating utilities announced they would not build the Big Stone II Project.
The project would have generated up to 600 megawatts of power for more than 1 million people in 5 states.
This project required additional participants to move forward; but none committed.
One major setback was Otter Tail Power Company announcing it's withdrawal from the project.
The company pulled out from the project in Sept. saying the economic downturn and uncertainty regarding federal legislation led them to make that decision.
