However, according to the Douglas County Department of Public Health, the various forms of the vaccine will only be available for newborns to kids up to age nine.
DCHP also said the vaccinations will largely be offered in local clinics for children under four years, along with the parents of children under six months.
Seven school-based clinics will also be conducted throughout the upcoming week in Douglas County. According to Alexandria School District 206, one of those clinics will be offered to children and parents during after school hours.
The in-school clinics will take place on Tuesday, November 17 at Woodland Elementary from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; on Wednesday, November 18 at Garfield and Carlos Elementary from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; on Wednesday, November 18 at Miltona Science Magnet Elementary at 11 a.m; and on Thursday, November 19 at Lincoln Elementary from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and also at Voyager Elementary from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The evening clinic will be held on Thursday, November 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Voyager Elementary.
In a written statement, district 206 emphasized the optional status of the H1N1 vaccinations for children in school, stating:
"The h1n1 vaccine is not mandatory and requires written parental permission. offering the vaccine at school is one more option for district 206 parents to have their child(ren) vaccinated while helping to meet the demand for convenient, timely vaccination of school-aged children."
County clinics throughout the state have been scheduling appointments to distribute the vaccine. Call your local clinic for more information.
