That surpassed the goal of raising $75,000 and bringing 75 tons of food to the Fargodome. Students from 58 schools, from Kindred in North Dakota to Perham in Minnesota, collected food and money. Their effort brought praise from North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven and former Gov. Ed Schafer. Students fell short on their third goal - getting 7,500 signatures for a petition to the North Dakota Legislature showing the community's awareness and urging lawmakers to step up the effort to solve hunger issues. They plan to keep the petition online at www.fillthedome.org until Thursday. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
