Three Ejected, Two Dead in Crash near Bemidji

HUBBARD CO., MINN - Two people are dead after a two vehicle crash in Hubbard County ejects three people.
 
The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office received a report Wed. around 3:14 p.m. of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of County Road 45 and County Road 9 in Farden Township.
 
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities learned a 1997 Ford Super Cab pickup driven by Laird Hensel, 47, of Laporte, was heading northbound on County Road 45 into the intersection with County Road 9. 
 
A second vehicle, a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Eugene McArthur Jr, 57, of Ogema, with his passenger Richard Bunker, 54, of Naytahwaush, were driving eastbound on County Road 9 when McArthur's car collided with the pickup. 
 
After the vehicles collided with each other, they both collided with an electrical power box located in the field next to the intersection.
 
Hensel and Bunker were ejected from their vehicles and both pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.  
 
McArthur suffered injuries and was transported by Bemidji Ambulance to North Country Hospital in Bemidji, where he was treated and released.
 
The accident remains under investigation with the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office. 
 
The deceased were transported to Ramsey County Medical Center for autopsies. 
 
The Minnesota State Patrol will also be giving an updated report after the reconstruction of the accident is complete.
 
Along with Hubbard County Deputies, were personnel from the Cass County Sheriff's Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, and Bemidji Ambulance who responded to the scene.
