SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) - Supporters of a Minnesota native being detained in Iraq are gathering for a vigil in support of his release from prison.

Shane Bauer grew up in Onamia, and his mother lives in Pine City. He and two friends have been held in Iran for nearly 5 months now. Iranian officials have indicated the three will be tried for espionage, but their families say they were on a simple hiking trip in northern Iraq when they accidentally crossed the border.

The Minnesota vigil is Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee. There are vigils being held at the same time in Glenside, Pennsylvania and Berkeley, California, where family members of the other two Americans live.
