New Tool For The Unemployed Just a Click Away

ALEXANDRIA, MINN. - The most recent rate of unemployment in Minnesota is for the month of November, which dropped from 7.6 percent to 7.4 percent, and for those who are still unemployed there's a new online tool.

It's called minnesotaunemployed.com, and it's a resource website filled with links to everything from job search sites to health care sites.  Jessica Boyer with United Way heard about the website recently.

"It's a resource that's out there for job-seeking skills...helping with education," Boyer said.

This useful took brings many resources for the unemployed together on one website.

"A variety of different venues that you can look at on this website that are very helpful," Boyer said.

From skill assessments to affordable leisure activities, this website serves as a starting point to help those who might not know where to turn.

"Other venues that they may not be aware of that they are eligible for once they do become unemployed," Boyer said.

The Workforce Center in Alexandria also lists the website as a resource.

"It's also important to be self sufficient that you can also take care of yourself, so if you want to be at home and check out these websites that's absolutely fine as well," Rachel Mattson said.

Mattson teaches job hunting workshops at the center, and she says this website and others are convenient and resourceful, but it's still important to come to the center once in awhile.

"The internet is an excellent tool for job searching.  It's important to remember that it is one tool," Mattson explained.

Boyer says this website is an easy way to kick start your job search right from home.

"It creates an easier, more user friendly atmosphere," Boyer said.
