Cass Lake Man Allegedly Shoots Man Carrying 5-year-old Child

CASS LAKE, Minn. - The Cass County Attorney's Office released disturbing new details Monday surrounding the Leech Lake Reservation shooting that has one Cass Lake man recovering and another behind bars.

According to the Cass County Attorney's Office the 31-year-old shooting victim, Amos Laduke, was running away from the shooter while carrying his 5-year-old child when the incident happened last Thursday.

The shooter, 22-year-old William Morris, was arraigned in Cass County Court Monday where he was charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree as well as two counts of Attempted Intentional Murder in the Second Degree.

Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie says Laduke was ultimately shot three times in the back on the reservation. He was then airlifted to an area hospital.

The child was not injured in the shooting while Laduke was treated for serious but not life threatening injuries.

Morris is being held in the Cass County Jail. Bail is set at $500,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 22nd.
