  1. What are the Jefferson Awards?

 

This is a prestigious local and national program that recognizes individuals throughout the country performing great public service, but largely without recognition. The Jefferson Awards have been called the Oscars for volunteering and the Nobel Prize for Volunteers!!

 

  1. Who is eligible?

 

Volunteers from high school students through senior citizens are eligible for Jefferson Awards. Note the all nominations must be for individuals. A group or a club is not eligible for nomination. However, couples who work together as volunteers can be nominated for a Jefferson Award.

 

  1. What are KSAX/KRWF’s geographical restrictions?

 

As a local media partner we must restrict nominees to our designated viewing area in Central MN. The counties included in our viewing are include:

Beltrami, Hubbard, Cass, Becker, Ottertail, Wadena, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, Douglas, Grant, Stevens, Pope, Swift, Kandiyohi, Sterns, Big Stone,       Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Chippewa, Redwood, Lincoln, Lyon, Renville, Brown, and Cottonwood.

 

 

  1. How can someone be nominated?

 

You can use the enclosed nomination form, go on-line and nominate someone, or you can call our office at 320-763-5729 and we will send you a nomination form. Testimonials and/or support letters are also very helpful for the review panel.

 

  1. What is the deadline for nominations and where should they be sent?

 

All entries must be received at KSAX/KRWF TV by February 13, 2009.  Mail them to KSAX/KRWF Jefferson Awards, P.O. Box 189, Alexandria, MN 56308 or e-mail them to KSAX.com

 

  1. How many local people will be honored?

 

KSAX/KRWF will be honoring 6 local nominees. They will be recognized at an Awards Gala sometime in April of 2006. Each local winner will be given a bronze Jefferson Awards medallion. Of the 6 winners 1 will be chosen to represent the KSAX/KRWF Media Partnership in Washington DC and be considered for the National Jefferson Award. The Awards ceremony is held in June.

How do these local winners get to the national level?
From each community, the Jefferson Awards Board selects one local winner to come to
Washington as part of our National Ceremonies in Washington, DC in June. Over 60 U.S. Senators present these winners their award. The Board of Selectors picks five of these to receive the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for "Outstanding Community Service Benefiting Local Communities." They stand side by side with the four other national award winners.
