Bloomington teacher charged for relationship, explicit texts

A 35-year-old Bloomington man faces criminal sexual conduct charges for allegedly sleeping with a student at Kennedy High School.

According to the school’s principal, substitute teacher Dawne Lejeune Schwartz and a 17-year-old student had an ongoing sexual relationship.

Schwartz allegedly told someone she had been sleeping with the student at her house. Initially, Schwartz denied having a relationship with the boy, but admitted to sending sexually explicit text messages to the teen and other students.

Later in the interview, Schwartz told police she had been seeing the boy since November and that they had sex numerous times at both her Bloomington home and the boy's parents residence.

Schwartz has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison, a $30,000 fine, or both.
