Yesterday we brought you news of a 3-year-old boy killed while walking across the street in Merrifield.

Today criminal charges have been filed against the man responsible.  

Three-year-old Jack Larson was visiting his grandparents Saturday, where he and a group of other kids were playing at the Merrifield Lions Park.

The group left crossing County Road 3, causing vehicles to come to a stop in both directions.

Crow wing county authorities tell us that witnesses described the driver's vehicle as traveling fast along the shoulder in an attempt to pass the stopped vehicles.

The driver struck Larson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
