A researcher at the University of Minnesota has developed a new technique for imaging the brain which may lead to new epilepsy treatments.

U of M McKnight professor Bin He's research is called Functional Neuroimaging. He created a medical device that images the brain while an epilepsy patient has a seizure. The device then allows surgeons to identify the part of the brain that caused the seizure.

The U of M said one-third of people who suffer from epileptic seizures cannot be treated by medication. This new process could allow for breakthroughs in surgical treatment.

He's research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
