A Minneapolis man accused of breaking into a duplex and stabbing another man to death was charged Tuesday with murder in the second degree. According to the criminal complaint, Brian Jeffrey Miller, 31, attacked Brandon Keeler early Saturday morning at Keeler's home on the 1000-block of Lowry Ave. NE. Investigators said Keeler's roommate called 911 around 5 a.m. after he was awakened by the sound of a fight. He described seeing Keeler and another man fighting on an enclosed porch. He said he called out and the unknown man ran out of the house. Keeler died at the scene. Responding officers said they followed a blood trail out of the house, which made them believe the attacker was injured. They alerted hospitals in the area. According to the complaint, Miller showed up at Hennepin County Medical Center with cuts to his hands and face. Miller allegedly claimed he was hurt while fending off carjackers. Police found his car parked in northeast Minneapolis park. They also found his backpack in a hospital garbage container. According to the criminal complaint, both were covered in a "blood-like substance." Police also seized two knives that Miller was carrying. Investigators said they determined Miller knew Keeler and Keeler's roommate. And, because of prior visits to their home, knew its layout. According to police, Miller was living with Keeler's landlord until about a week ago. Miller is in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Facility. Bail has been set at $1 million. |
