Lori Pauline Huddleston, 51, was hit and killed around 8 p.m. Monday night. Police said she was walking in the westbound lane of the road about a quarter-mile east of Orono Orchard Road. Police are trying to determine whether weather was a factor. Orono Police Chief Correy Farniok said, "Visibility was a factor with the rain, or mist, in the air, the limited visibility and the glare from headlights off the roadway." Police say several drivers who hit Huddleston stayed at the scene. Farniok said, "There will be no charges at this point. There was no indication of alcohol use by any of the drivers, so that's been ruled out." Police are investigating whether other drivers hit Pauline and didn't know it. They're hoping to find additional witnesses to piece together what happened. The crash scene is just feet from the Dakota trail, which is used by bikers, runners and walkers. Police say the victim was not on the trail when she was hit and killed. |
