Updated at: 01/04/2010 4:47 PM | KSAX.com Two Local Bars Going Out of Business Jan. 1...Using New Year's Eve as Last HurrahALEXANDRIA, MINN.- Bug A Boo Bay and Trophys, hit hard by the stuggling economy closed the doors on Jan. 1, 2010. So on Dec. 31, these Alexandria hot spots had a proper send off. "Were really gonna miss this place a lot. We come here all the time, it's awesome" Bug A Boo Bay fan Marlene Grindlend said. Marlene's words could have easily came out of any area resident who has ever had fun at local hot spots Bug A Boo Bay or Trophys. But no business is immune to the down economy, not even bars. "It all started about two years ago" Trophys Bar owner Scott Larson says. "When weddings really started being more at home, private weddings, they didn't go out and spend thousands of dollars on weddings anymore. Then with the smoking ban and the .08 it gradually got worse." Those factors among other things have caused both establishments to close their doors for good come January 1. So New Years Eve will be the final swan song and there looking to send both bars off with a bang. Written for the web by: Tony Seeman
