Best friends killed when car crashes into Mpls. tree
Two families are mourning the deaths of two young women and best friends who were killed when their car hit a tree in a residential area of south Minneapolis. Police said the crash happened around 10 p.m. Thursday in the Diamond Lake neighborhood. Senara Brack and Tamara Gaetan, both 20-years-old, died. Their families said the two women were roommates and best friends since high school. Their families said they were headed home after picking up their housemate--a 17-year-old boy who suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash--from wrestling practice. On the way, they stopped by the home of Senara's mother, Etta Brack. Brack said, "She had just left here and gave me a kiss and said I'll see you tomorrow mom." The women were just three blocks from their home when they crashed. Brack said, "Senara was full of life. Senara was a very caring, warm-hearted person, very outgoing. She was a good kid." Tamara's family was already in mourning. The family lost several relatives this month in the Haiti earthquake. The family moved to the United States from Haiti when Tamara was 5-years-old. Her father Morel Gaetan said, "This is a piece of my life you know, just gone." The 17-year-old who was in the car with the women is recovering from a broken leg at Hennepin County Medical Center. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated speed may have been a factor in the accident. |
