Wheaton Pastor Danny Barnes Will Go to Prison

ORTONVILLE, Minn. (AP) - The pastor of a church in west-central Minnesota has been given an 11½-year prison sentence on convictions for kidnapping, assault and burglary.

The Forum of Fargo, N.D., reports that 52-year-old Danny K. Barnes was sentenced Wednesday in Big Stone County District Court.

Barnes was convicted last month on three felony charges and two misdemeanor assault charges in a June 22 home invasion in Beardsley.

Barnes claimed he did nothing wrong and said he was just trying to get his son-in-law into treatment for substance abuse.

The 138-month sentenced was about double the punishment suggested in state sentencing guidelines. Barnes' attorney,

Mitchell Robinson, says in his opinion it's way too much time.

Barnes' church is Thy Kingdom Come in Wheaton. It ministers to substance abusers.
