3 Charged in Murder of Teen Found in Pond
Juvenile petitions say the three hit 17-year-old James Teto Grant in the head with the shovel, then tied a car battery to his leg and dumped his body in a park pond in Golden Valley. Kayakers found Grant's body on July 18.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports a 14-year-old boy and two 16-year-olds were charged this week with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
Golden Valley Police Chief Stacy Altonen says one of the boys told investigators they took Grant to a wooded area of Theodore Wirth Park for a gang initiation beating and in retaliation for Grant's earlier fight with a relative.
